Ram Trucks is expanding its offerings in the performance pickup truck segment with the introduction of the 2022 Ram 1500 TRX Sandblast Edition. The new truck is meant to give prospective customers increased options for customization on the inside and outside.

"Our customers want to stand out from the crowd and the new Ram 1500 TRX Sandblast Edition allows them to do just that, while offering the segment's best combination of performance, capability and technology," Ram Brand CEO Mike Koval Jr. said in a press release.

"We're constantly expanding and exploring new ideas to meet the needs and fuel the imagination of our passionate customers and this is the latest example of how Ram trucks deliver features that will continue to win over more and more buyers."

A number of unique appointments are applied to the outside of the Sandblast Edition. A Mojave Sand exterior color is exclusive to the model, building on the 1500 TRX's seven color choices.

The special edition truck holds much of the styling of the standard truck, but also comes with 18-inch black bead lock capable wheels and a dual-pane panoramic sunroof.

At the back, there's a bed step, spray-in bedliner, cargo tie-downs and a cab-mounted LED brake light.

No change comes to the engine, which is the same supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8 engine that powers every other TRX. Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, the truck nets 702 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque.

The TRX edition of the Ram 1500 is EPA-rated for 10 miles per gallon (mpg) in the city and 14 mpg on the highway.

It has a company-estimated zero to 60 time of 4.5 seconds.

On the inside, the cabin is appointed with Light Frost accent stitching and carbon fiber accents. The TRX logo is embroidered into the seat back. The flat-bottom steering wheel is made of leather and carbon fiber. A badge unique to the model is displayed on the center console.

For the Sandblast Edition, the TRX Level 2 Equipment Group comes standard. That means buyers get a swath of luxury appointments, including a 19-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, heated and ventilated first and second row seats, driver seat memory, trailer brake-controller and rain-sensitive windshield wipers.

Standard safety features include lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control and pedestrian emergency braking.

The Sandblast Edition is going on sale this summer, starting at $98,295.

A base Ram 1500 TRX begins at $78,890. Elsewhere in the segment, a 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor starts at $69,905. A 2022 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 has a starting MSRP of $70,490. The 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro undercuts them all with a beginning price of $67,505.
