One of the major benefits of electric vehicles is the performance that is able to be achieved with them. And there are some unlikely brands taking advantage of this EV power. The Kia EV6 electric SUV has been out for a while now, but Kia is still planning a major upgrade and that is in form of the Kia EV6 GT. This model will offer significantly more horsepower than the standard model and a range of performance changes. Making the 2022 Kia EV6 GT a legitimate sports SUV. But, can it compete with the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT?

The EV6 GT is the performance version of Kia’s electric SUV. It boasts 576 hp and 546 lb-ft of torque, which is fairly impressive for a Kia. This model has a fair amount of visual changes to signal its high-performance attitude, including painted brake calipers.

Another feature noted by Car and Driver is a change to the software. While the 2022 Kia EV6 GT lacks a real limited-slip differential, apparently this vehicle does have the ability to emulate one. That should be appreciated when you are taking advantage of the power that this vehicle has to offer.

In terms of horsepower, the 2022 EV6 GT does excel over its Ford rival. The Kia has 576 hp while the Ford has just 480 hp. Now, that isn’t to say the Mustang Mach-E GT is not powerful, because it is. But you get the benefit of more horsepower from the Kia.

Both vehicles do come equipped with all-wheel drive, which helps with their status as grand tourers. The electric Mustang has almost 50 more lb-ft of torque over the EV6 GT. Where the new Mustang Mach-E does excel is its practicality. It has more cargo capacity than the Kia and slightly more passenger space.

Plus, there’s no ignoring the Mustang name. Since the age of muscle cars, the Mustang has been an icon. And while plenty of folks are skeptical if the Mach-E deserves the Mustang name, it certainly has the power. Kia just does not have that kind of history to back up this new product.

When it comes to range, both vehicles are comparable at around 250 miles. But, before options, the 2022 Kia EV6 GT will be the cheaper option.

Pricing and power both considered the 2022 Kia EV6 GT may be the right buy. But, it does not come with the kind of heritage that the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT comes with. So, ultimately, if you are looking for a performance EV, you should test drive both of these options if possible.

The interiors feel almost entirely different, although both do a good job of implementing modern tech. And of course, both EVs do come with plenty of safety assistance features, which is to be expected at this price point. The Kia EV6 GT just happens to do it with more horsepower.
