The new German company will produce just 22 of the modified classic Volkswagen.

Enthusiasts of classic Volkswagen Beetles have something new to admire and potentially own if they have a spare $600,000 for a custom restomod version of the Beetle. The Milivié 1 is a new iteration of the VW Beetle, and the German company plans to build only 22 of them, one for every million of the 22 million that Volkswagen built during the Beetle's original production run. Each Milivié 1 will come in at €570,000.

The process to create the car comes from inspiration from a classic Volkswagen and then makes modifications unlike anything you've seen before. Milivié uses a donor car though the only original elements of the car that will make it through production is a modified metal monocoque section of the body and modified floorboards, everything else is brand new. The overall design remains classic Beetle, but the body panels and overall shape of the car evoke a more modern design that is more in line with trends of today. Milivié drew inspiration from Porsche to give the Beetle a sportier look than the original car had.

While the engine has undergone some modifications, it remains true to the Beetle's roots; Milivié uses a 2.3-liter flat-four based on the original block. The engine gets paired with two Weber carburetors and has a fully electric ignition system. The engine contains further modifications with expanded oil channels, two oil pressure regulating pistons and individually balanced crankshafts. It breathes through a bespoke stainless steel exhaust system with either titanium or black chrome tips. At this time, power figures are not yet available. There is one transmission option, a four-speed automatic sourced from a Porsche 911 Carrera 2. Milivié did develop a unique transmission software that offers both a comfort and shifting mode, as well as paddle shifters on the steering wheel.

A completely new, fully independent, double wishbone suspension in the front and rear will allow for improved handling; paired with twin tube dampers and “V3 Competition 2A” springs engineered specifically for this use. 19-inch wheels and performance brakes, specifically six-piston calipers up front and four-piston calipers in the rear, are some additional performance changes this model will have over the car that inspired it.

Milivié developed touchscreens and touch surfaces for a fully modern interior; dual 12.3" screens function as the instrument cluster and infotainment system. The software for the screens is specifically intended for this car and mimic the classic analog design you would find in a classic Beetle. A nine-speaker audio system, automatic headlights, parking sensors, front and rear cameras, auto climate control, in addition to air conditioning, automatic windshield wipers and electronic steering are some other modern upgrades the Milivié 1 has to offer. If you would like to add one to your garage, the purchase process goes through Milivié’s “concierge” service and reservations are open now.
